Goldfish.
Goldfish.
Tank info
Minimum Tank Size: 200 liter per fish
Group Size: 5+
Water Temperature: 10 to 24°C
pH: 6 to 8
Hardness: 5 to 19 dGH
Lifespan: 10 to 20 years
Adult Size: Goldfish have growth-inhibiting hormones. This prevents them from overgrowing their living environment. However, if given a proper living space – such as a pond – goldfish can reach as much as 30cm
Usual Place in the Tank: All levels.
Decorations
You want a substrate that won’t damage their tails or fins. Sand, fine gravel, or smooth pebbles work best. You want to avoid driftwood or anything else containing tannins. Comet goldfish can’t tolerate tannins the way many tropical species can.
Add some plants if possible and you will need an air-stone in the tank
Feeding
Goldfish are omnivores, and they ALWAYS act hungry – even after feeding.
Goldfish need a varied diet consisting of high quality flakes or pellets, and live foods (Daphnia, brine shrimp earthworms).
The following fruit and blanched vegetables is a bonus for them and will help prevent bloating and boost their color.
Blueberries, broccoli, carrots, cucumbers, lettuce, peas, strawberries and zucchini.
Tank mates
You want fish large enough (or strong enough) to compete for their food, and handle cooler temperatures. Consider some of the following.
Axolotl
Golden barb
Rosy barb
The risk of stress or illness breaking out due to that fine line of tolerance is too risky. So skip the following fish:
