Decorations

Fine darker colored substrates and background help colors stand out. A few river rocks and some pieces of driftwood. Live plants will also be a great feature with this fish.

Feeding

Platies are omnivores that appreciate a variety of meals . Feed your fish a high-quality flake food that can be consumed in 3 minutes, and if possible feed daphnia or brine shrimp once or twice a week.

Tank mates

The following fish are of similar size and nature, and will happily be good tank mates.

Shrimp

Take note that there is a high possibility of cross breeding between swordtails and platies so they are not ideal tank mates.
